I got an advance readers copy of Lunar Park. It SUCKS! It will be a big disappointment to his real fans. It's more like a Stephen King novel than anything else. Lame.

What's a "real" fan? It doesn't make sense to say that a real fan should dislike a particular work by the artist that he is supposedly a fan of. I'm not saying that fans should automatically like it, either, just because it's got Ellis' name on the cover. It just seems pretty silly to imply that someone is less of an Ellis fan because like Ellis' newest book.

Anyway, I wish he would stop by Philadelphia. I mean, he's going to the Hamptons? It seems like he caters an awful lot to the demographic that he satirizes, which I find strange. I'm half considering going up to NYC to see the event there, but I probably won't, since I'm broke.

B.E.E. is a genious and I am dying to read his latest, regardless of the King comparisons that have been made. Incidentally, I love Stephen King so that is not a dissuading comment. Ellis seems to have jumped into that Charlie Kaufman-esque (Being John Malkovich) realm of fact plus fiction. He is constantly challenging his readers, and for that I have nothing but respect for Ellis.

I saw Ellis last Friday at Vroman's. It was an exciting and I think successful outting. Ellis should be a standup comic. A drunk, perscription drugged comic, but still, one that gets laughs almost every time he opens his mouth.

Bret has changed his views regarding his Los Angeles habitation. He will no longer be living in LA, even though he loves the city (he claims he lives "nowhere"). He seemed a little defensive when I asked him about his screenplay career, but ended his statement about a horror script he is currently working on about the Manta Ray ("very scary", he added).

Bret allowed each fan to have 5 books signed, and more than half of them took pictures with their arms around him. My girlfriend and I left early, but I heard from a friend that went toward the end of the night, that Bret looked totally worn out. Also, my friend, a guy, said that Bret hit on him.

Ellis was very nice; signed five books for each person. He hit on a friend of mine, a guy, somewhat aggressively. Although my friend is straight, I tried to persuade my friend to go out on a date with Ellis. But he just got Ellis to sign the books.
